EOWCFC Chapter 23 – Success! The Team Sets Off

Chu Zhitian hummed coldly and kicked Xiao Ziling who was on the ground, “What are you looking at, still not getting up?”

Xiao Ziling quickly got up and looked at Chu Zhitian aggrievedly with his big eyes wide and said, “Chu-ge, why not let me follow? I’m also one of the team’s members.”

Chu Zhitian squinted at Xiao Ziling without answering.

That meant that you were too weak!

There were a few muffled laughs from the side, among which Dong Haozhe was the most obvious. Xiao Ziling’s aggrieved eyes stared directly at Dong Haozhe, and he clearly hoped that Dong Haozhe and Deputy Dong’s team would say something to help him.

Xiao Ziling threw too much spinach over, and Dong Haozhe finally couldn’t hold it anymore, so he could only cough a little and said: “Chu-ge, Xiaoling is a speed ability user, so in fact, sending him to explore is still very suitable.”

When Xiao Ziling heard these words, he was excited. His eyes narrowed directly into a line, and he nodded sincerely, echoing Dong Haozhe’s words strongly.

However, Chen Jingwen had different opinions and quickly blocked him: “No, the situation is still unclear at that place. Xiaoling is young and has no experience, so he is not suitable for going to unknown and dangerous places.” Chen Jingwen still attached great importance to Zhang Ai-Ai’s predictions. Because of this, at this time he didn’t want the team members to take meaningless risks. If he wanted to go, he would wait for the situation to be ascertained before going.

“There should be no problem if he is with Chu-ge.” Like a black-bellied person, Dong Haozhe showed a simple smile while he threw Xiao Ziling to Chu Zhitian.

Chu Zhitian couldn’t help rolling his eyes: why would Dong Haozhe think this kid is his responsibility? His disapproving gaze was directed at Dong Haozhe, hoping that he wouldn’t casually hand out baggage like this.

Dong Haozhe continued to smile, but silently mouthed three words. Chu Zhitian understood and was depressed and speechless. Dong Haozhe simply and clearly stated the three words ‘you recruited him’to explain who was responsible.

Chu Zhitian felt very regretful in his heart, but he didn’t expect to accept a bag of troubles and even have to do the clean up by himself (the raws literally said “wipe his ass” hahaha). He decided that he would never admit anyone into the team in the future. Chen Jingwen and Dong Haozhe could just trouble themselves over doing all of the acquisition. Once bitten by a snake, one would fear even ropes for the next ten years.

Chu Zhitian, who was in a bad mood, had an even colder tone, and his words became mean: “What can you do? Just staying out of the way is good enough.”

Xiao Ziling was not shocked by Chu Zhitian’s words; instead, he looked bashful. With a shy smile and worshipful eyes, he looked at Chu Zhitian: “I know my strength is not very good, but because of this, I have to fight harder. Only by constantly fighting to improve my ability can I be as effective as Chu Ge and be your good little brother.”

Chu Zhitian was hit by Xiao Ziling’s sugar-coated cannonballs. He suddenly felt pretty good. The original bad mood suddenly disappeared. He felt that Xiao Ziling was not as annoying as just now, so maybe he could take him there. Not bad.

Although Chu Zhitian’s expression did not change, Chen Jingwen and Dong Haozhe, who grew up from diapers with him, still felt Chu Zhitian’s mood change. Chen Jingwen glanced at Xiao Ziling in surprise. It was the first time he saw Chu Zhitian like this. There are people who are very successful in flattering, but he clearly knew that Chu Zhitian hates such people.

Is it so easy to be believed by just looking innocent? Chen Jingwen’s thoughts were a mess.

Dong Haozhe shot a funny look at Xiao Ziling. He knew that this kid could easily affect Chu Zhitian’s mood. Since the first time they met, it was very strange. Perhaps Chu Zhitian only had pure drive in the beginning, but then he met Xiao Ziling. After seeing his true face, the gaps in Chu Zhitian’s moods and whims were huge and obvious, and the aftermath of this most recent blow had yet to disappear. It was still clearly affecting Chu Zhitian…

“Chu-ge, take me there!” Xiao Ziling’s tone was full of expectation and he looked at Chu Zhitian sincerely.

This look made Chu Zhitian think of the puppy that he had adopted before; the fear-of-abandonment expression looked exactly the same. Chu Zhitian was defeated, so he could only sternly take out his pocket watch and said, “I will only wait for you for three minutes. After that, time’s up.” It was as cold as ever, but Chu Zhitian himself knew how helpless he felt inside.

“Yes, Chu-ge!” Xiao Ziling looked excited and directly made a military salute. Before the others could react, a gust of wind blew, and Xiao Ziling’s figure disappeared.

“This kid is really fast, definitely a speed deserving of a speed mutant. Chu-ge gave him too much time.” Dong Haozhe’s words were clearly stirring up trouble.

Chu Zhitian’s gaze swept over sharply, with a clear warning in his eyes. Obviously, Dong Haozhe’s words hit Chu Zhitian’s weakness.

Dong Haozhe shrugged and stopped making a ruckus. He still knew when enough was enough. Chu Zhitian would definitely punish him with training to make up for any grudges. Dong Haozhe doesn’t harbor any masochistic tendencies.

In less than two minutes, Xiao Ziling stood in front of Chu Zhitian: panting, carrying his non-extraordinary Tang knife on his back, touching the back of his head and saying shyly: “Chu-ge, I’m not late, am I?”

Other than a vague glance, Chu Zhitian did not answer. Instead, he turned to Chen Jingwen and said: “The team is all here. Zhen Yilong is responsible for driving. Let’s go.”

“Yes, Chu-ge.” Chen Jingwen nodded and replied. Outside of the gate, Zhen Yilong drove an extended RV and was already waiting there.

When the crowd came, Zhen Yilong looked at Xiao Ziling trailing excitedly behind Chu Zhitian with a surprised look. The gossiping heart suddenly rose within him.

I don’t know how he convinced Chu Zhitian to take him with him. Chu Zhitian is not the type of person who would easily change his mind or preferences.

Although his stomach full of curiosity and gossip made his heart itchy, the cautious Zhen Yilong didn’t say anything. He didn’t dare to ask Chu Zhitian directly. Zhen Yilong knew that Chu Zhitian’s sharp gaze could raise every hair on his body; otherwise he might go back and actually ask him. Zhen Yilong made up his mind and focused on driving the car safely, regardless of the strange atmosphere in the car.

Xiao Ziling was shocked as soon as he got in the RV. He had never seen such a luxurious car; a car so luxurious that, for a while, it made him forget the environment he was in. He caressed the seat under him, then opened the refrigerator that was on one side and looked at the abundance of food and drinks inside with surprise.

Is this still the end of the world? Xiao Ziling muttered to himself in disbelief.

“Sit down!” Chu Zhitian, who couldn’t bear it, finally spoke, and eyes full of frost were viciously staring at Xiao Ziling.

Xiao Ziling stuck out his tongue, then peacefully sat beside Chu Zhitian, but he still studied the accessories around him from time to time, ignoring the chill of the air around him. The rumored Chu Zhitian is super patient: allowing others to make mistakes but would not glare a person to death at once. So as long as it is not excessive, Chu Zhitian is a tiger without claws. Fierce-looking, but it is actually safe. Xiao Ziling is right. This is very certain.

Dong Haozhe’s mouth cracked as he desperately held back the laughter that was about to spill out. Lu Yuntao turned his back in pain and looked at the isolation fence in front of him, very envious of Dai Hongfei being able to sit in the passenger seat, so that he would not suffer this time. To quietly hold in laughter is a very painful thing.

Seeing this scene before him, Chu Zhitian had a headache and regretted everything. Why was he so enchanted at that time and promised to bring him here? Obviously, he was looking for sin and suffering!

A Giraffe Has Some Words (totally skippable– as giraffes are questionable orators, at best): This is one of my favorite (if not my absolute favorite) BL apocalypse novels. I read it a few years back and MTL’d it to the end. I happened to look at the novel’s page while I was casually trolling NU and noticed that it was far from finished. Upon further investigation, I discovered it had been dropped.

Honestly, this is a great novel. Please support the author, if you can (I looked for the novel on qidian but had trouble finding it, so I’m not sure what’s going on with that, really). Major, MAJOR kudos to the translators who translated the chapters before this; I 1,000% appreciate all of your efforts. I wouldn’t have ever read this if you all hadn’t started translating it to begin with. I only hope I can do justice to the original story and all of your work thus far.

I really wish a translator was available to translate this work the way that it deserves to be translated. Alas, I will just have to do my best, fueled by my love for this story. I’m not fluent in Chinese so please allow for some discrepancy between the original work and my TL, because we are def flying by the seat of our pants, here X-D

I’m shooting for a chapter per week rn, because I feel like that’s doable. If I can do more, trust, I will. I’d appreciate any support, encouragement, feedback, corrections, alladat!
